The Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Animal Caretaker to join the Elephant/Rhino team. With the anticipation of two elephant calf births in 2025, our team is growing along with our herd. Currently consisting of 3.5 Asian elephants and 0.2 Indian rhinoceros, the Elephant/Rhino program at the Oklahoma City Zoo is a dynamic and progressive breeding program with a strong focus on behavioral husbandry training. The Oklahoma City Zoo boasts a total of approximately nine acres of outdoor habitat that is inhabited by both elephants and rhinos, in addition to two state-of-the-art holding barns.
- Animal Caretakers on the Elephant/Rhino team actively participate in husbandry techniques for the elephants and rhinos, as well as assist in veterinary medical procedures and care.
- Animal Caretakers also enhance guest experiences and education through daily interactions, public training presentations, and frequent behind-the-scenes tours.
- The ideal candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, function effectively in an energetic team environment, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Under the direct supervision of the Curator of Elephants/Rhinos, this position performs a variety of skilled/semi-skilled work required for the care and safety of animals, staff, and the public.
Experience Required
- Experience Required: One (1) year of paid experience working in an Association of Zoos and Aquarium (AZA) accredited facility with relevant taxa OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience, including qualifying unpaid AZA internships, to successfully perform the essential duties.
Minimum Education Requirements:
