Animal Diet Technician Lead

Experience Required:
  • Three (3) years of experience in animal diet preparation Or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job.  
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Department:
  • Veterinary Services.
Direct Supervisor:
  • Director of Veterinary Services.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Direct (0); Indirect (2) 
Primary Work Location:
  • Zoo Setting both indoors and outdoors.
Certification:
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire and pass driver’s history check. Completion of OKC Zoo Global Academy training in the first six (6) months of employment 
Other:
  • This position is safety sensitive. It is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks and drug testing.  This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory diseases, thus is subject to annual tuberculosis testing and must vaccinate against Covid19. 
Essential Job Functions

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

  • Must perform all operational requirements of the Animal Diet Technician,
  • Train new staff in commissary daily operations and work with supervisor to maintain work schedules.
  • Oversee the preparation of animal diets as prescribed in an accurate and efficient manner; deliver to each area; may prepare food in advance as needed.  
  • Order food and supplies, rotate food stock, and maintain inventory.
  • Oversee the food safety procedures with special attention focused on proper food storage and handling.
  • Oversee proper handling, cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Receive and inspect all shipments and deliveries in compliance with established protocols as well as perform inventory cycles.
  • Oversee the cleaning and sanitizing of the diet preparation and storage areas daily. 
  • Break down boxes and take out trash as needed. 
  • Aid veterinary and keeper staff as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and departments to meet the Zoo's goals and objectives.
  • Safe operation of vehicles used within the division.
