Animal Keeper I

Located in Manhattan, KS, Sunset Zoo is a small, historic AZA facility with a big future! Expedition Asia, featuring Malayan tigers, amur leopards, and sloth bears, opened in Spring 2022. We are beginning work on our next phase of development which includes a new lemur exhibit, a new African Plains hoofstock exhibit, and refurbished Americas, Australia, and Contact Corral.

We are excited to announce we are hiring TWO Keeper I positions- one of which is brand new! Both positions are relief/swing keepers and with be trained to work with all species.

Zoo highlights:

• We have the oldest chimpanzee in AZA. Susie turned 69 this year and we’re looking forward to planning her Sunflower 70th Birthday Party!
• We have breeding recommendations for our tigers, leopards, hyenas, red pandas, and flamingo flock.
• We’re adding two new species next year- okapi and Sichuan takin!
• Starting Salary Range: $18.62 - $22.34/hour with full benefits through the city.

Experience Required

Required Education and Experience:

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. One (1) year of experience in a zoological setting or in the field of animal care.
• Preferred Education and Experience: College degree in an animal-related field. Two to four (2-4) years of experience in a zoological setting or in the field of animal care.
• Three to Six (3-6) years of prior related experience and/or training.

Salary

Starting Salary Range: $18.62 - $22.34/hour
