The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the Alexandria Zoo located in the heart of Central Louisiana to assist the Zoo Director in all major operating areas including animal collection and management, animal care, record keeping education, master planning, exhibit design, and administration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains direct correspondence with various agencies regarding all matters of zoo operation, these may include AZA, USDA, US Fish and Wildlife Service, LA Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, FEMA, Homeland Security and DEQ on all matters concerning permits, licensing, and adherence to guidelines and general zoo operation.
- Works directly with the Zoo Director and Curators to oversee the daily operation of the zoo: oversees office management, including supervising the secretary and cashiers; assists the Director in developing the policies and procedures related to zoo operation; researches information of Zoo Director on various topics regarding zoo operation and animal care; helps develop retail management strategies; participates in budget analysis and preparation, and disbursement of funds; receives, records and responds to messages, updating the Zoo Director of pertinent information; assists with special events.
- Reviews, prepares, and/or maintains appropriate paperwork necessary to the functions of this position: assists the Zoo Director in application processes for permits, Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation, and licenses for operation; assists with permits needed for animal transactions; supervises the health care curator’s animal/health records, making sure they are duplicated and maintained according to zoo and AZA policies.
- Assumes directorship in the absence of Zoo Director.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Zoology or related field; supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible management experience in zoological programming or operations; or any or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for this job.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
