The Audio-Visual Specialist position contributes to the overall success of Zoo operations including a great guest experience through properly functioning audio-visual equipment. Reporting to the Director of Special Events and Attractions, the AV Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and installing in-park audio visual systems throughout the campus. In addition, this position supports events and seasonal/temporary exhibits with AV needs at the zoo.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and monitor existing audio visual systems. Systems include built in AV in public viewing spaces, restaurants, meeting rooms, and microphones (and music) at encounters and stage shows.
- Ensure installed equipment is functioning properly and escalate issues to management as needed
- Set up Portable Audio-visual systems, including microphones for events and meetings in coordination with event leads and department leadership.
- Works with Zoo departments to ensure AV equipment is prepared and ready for events and daily operations.
- Provide basic operating instructions to staff and system users.
- Serve as a first responder for system malfunctions and troubleshooting during events, and escalate issues to management in real time.
- Assist with coordinating repairs and replacements of AV systems. Coordinate with vendors and contractors for on-site repairs.
- Perform monthly audit of operating equipment and share findings with management to support planning and readiness.
- Maintain and update system tracking databases by accurately recording equipment issues, repairs, and service history, and notify leadership of recurring or outstanding issues.
- Design music playlists for general park operations, encounters, stage shows, and special events.
- Respond to work orders for audio-visual equipment.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of camera and audio-visual equipment, working alongside vendors and contractors to support safety needs.
- Work at heights using ladders or elevated equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- One to three years of professional or volunteer audio video experience.
- Outstanding commitment to customer service and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with an outstanding ability to multi-task.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and diplomacy in working with others.
- Intermediate skill level working with hand tools and installation techniques.
- Basic carpentry skills are a plus.
- Must understand the value and need for meeting deadlines and communicating effectively in order to do so.
- Strong customer service skills.
- High degree of adaptability. Must be able to shift priorities seamlessly while remaining efficient and effective.
- Self-motivated with ability to work with little or no supervision, take initiative to solve issues as they arise and accept constructive criticism as given.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Will work irregular hours, including some nights, holidays and weekends, as needed.
- Navigate obstacles in various work environments as needed.
- Exposure to heights, including climbing and working on stairs, ladders, or elevated equipment.
- Tasks involve significant periods of standing or walking outside during events and photo shoots, as well as during event set-up or break-down times.
- Lifting, carrying, moving, pushing, and/or pulling of objects/materials of up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with reliable transportation.
