The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park’s Bird and Mammal Department is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team full-time. The zoo is world-renowned for its crocodilians, but it also maintains an incredible and diverse collection of birds and small mammals. Keepers are responsible for all aspects of husbandry including, but not limited to: exhibit maintenance, diet preparation, enrichment, behavioral studies, data collection, veterinary visits, public presentations, and construction projects. This demanding job requires attention to detail, time management skills, and a positive attitude that can be shared with our visitors. This position performs shows for the public, therefore requiring some public speaking / education experience. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is a drug-free workplace.
Experience Required
- All applicants must fulfill the following requirements: 1)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. 2)
- the ability to work as part of a team composed of other staff and interns 3) have a positive attitude with good communication skills, 4) enjoy working outdoors year-round in a Florida climate 5) tolerate strong odors, hay, and animal dander 6) be able to lift 50 pounds, climb over fences, bend awkwardly, and move quickly in demanding situations.
- 7) must be available to work weekends and holidays Keeper II:
- In addition to the requirements above, Keeper II candidates must demonstrate a broad foundation of knowledge, skills and experience with husbandry management and good understanding of behavioral management and preventive health care.
- This includes the ability to proactively visually assess animal wellness and exhibit security and safety.
- Applicants for this role should have at least 2 years of experience at an AZA facility and will be expected to serve as an example to other keepers and to prioritize project needs.
Salary
- Starting pay is $16/hr. Benefits begin after a 60-day probationary period.
