Communications Coordinator

Have you ever wished a sloth a happy birthday? Or celebrated the birth of a baby penguin? This could be part of your job as the Communications Coordinator at John Ball Zoo! The Communications Coordinator grows the Zoo’s digital presence via various platforms/tools and coordinates media requests under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Sales. They create and maintain social, media, and email content that ties in with the Zoo’s brand voice, attracts attention, and garners high engagement of targeted audiences. Best of all, they get to celebrate all of the Zoo’s milestones, from welcoming new animals to sharing our conservation success stories!

  • The Communications Coordinator collaborates with various stakeholders to lead the creation of content in the form of videos, photos, and written content.
  • They assist in the management of day-to-day activities related to media, digital, and email platforms, while maintaining continuity of messaging across all mediums.
  • They manage relationships with digital, agency, and media guests, lead social and email campaigns, and reply to online questions and comments.
Experience Required
  • 2-4 years experience in communications
  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress in Communications/Marketing or related field; or equivalent related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills, and presentation delivery ability
  • Thorough knowledge of the digital and social media universe including Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, TikTok, SnapChat, Pinterest, Google, Twitter, Constant Contact, and blogs
  • Thorough knowledge of photography and video principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); basic computer literacy and working knowledge of desktop publishing, computer graphics, multimedia presentation and database applications

Salary
  • $20 - $24 per hour
