Job Description
- The Coordinator of Construction serves as the coordinator for various projects including facility and habitat renovations and new attractions at ZooTampa.
- Works collaboratively with all departments at ZooTampa to coordinate construction projects taking place in the Zoo.
- This position reports to the Director of Construction.

Essential Functions
- Oversees the activities at a construction job site and manages construction crews daily.
- Collaborates with key members of the project team including Project Owners, Owners Representative and General Contractors to facilitate successful projects.
- Assists with all aspects of capital projects at ZooTampa, including but not limited to planning, design, bidding, permitting, contracting and construction.
- Assists with arranging necessary equipment and supply delivery to construction site(s).
- Closely supervises multiple projects during the course of the day.
- Reports on project progress and challenges.
- Acts as a member of the Support Team.
- Coordinates communication between the zoo and various parties involved in the project, such as contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and project owners.
- Owns the Contractor Badge Request process as it relates to active and upcoming construction at ZooTampa.
- Develops and manages ZooTampa’s engineering drawing and blueprint collection.
- Leads smaller scale capital and maintenance projects from start to finish, as assigned.
- Performs site walk-throughs with necessary contractors and sub-contractors, ensuring quality control and that all Zoo requirements, standards and policies are properly implemented.
- Tracks all assigned projects utilizing the FMX system including project schedules as needed.
- Partners with the Procurement and Finance departments to ensure all purchase orders, contracts and invoices are done and processed in accordance with zoo policy in a timely fashion.
- Prepares reports regarding project status including detailed, up-to-date timelines and schedules for appropriate distribution.
- Works to avoid or resolve any problems or conflicts that may arise between the Zoo and construction related vendors.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations, building codes and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
- Ensures agreed upon project completion dates are met on-time and on-budget.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred or equivalent experience in project or facilities management.
- 1-2 years’ experience in the management of projects is required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex physical facilities and ensure secure, safe, and environmentally sound operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and/or assignments simultaneously while ensuring timely completion and prioritization.
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical systems, power systems, wastewater treatment, plumbing, electrical, building systems, life-support and safety systems and basic construction techniques is preferred.
- Possess knowledge of trades and skills to effectively communicate with contractors, sub-contractors and other 3rd party vendors.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Project is preferred.
- Other Requirements
- Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, building codes, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
- Previous Zoo, Aquarium, or Themed Entertainment Experience preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated exceptional time management practices, attention to detail and excellent communications skills required.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
- Possess visual, hearing and other sensory and cognitive capacity appropriate for facility and construction management and general safety practices.
- Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
- Must have ability to navigate paved as well as rough terrain on foot and by vehicle.
- Ability to work long hours and varying shifts, including nights and week-ends, as required.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize project management and work plan software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and ability to adapt well to other computer programs.
