Creative Content Specialist

Summary: As our Creative Content Specialist, you will research content and consumer trends, develop content strategies, and create content for Memphis Zoo in both print and digital media. You will work with the marketing team to ensure that the content is engaging, consistent, and scheduled across all media platforms.

Essential Functions:
  • Researching content and consumer trends to ensure that content is relevant and appealing.
  • Developing content strategies to effectively reach the desired target audience and marketing goals.
  • Creating content for a variety of platforms including blogs, websites, and social media.
  • Capture captivating and engaging photo and video content from around the zoo.
  • Proofreading and editing content before publishing.
  • Ensuring that SEO and SMO strategies are effectively implemented.
  • Managing content calendars and ensuring that the content remains consistent across all platforms.
  • Coordinating with the marketing, design, and writing teams to ensure the timely delivery of assignments.
  • Tracking consumer and content analytics and generating reports and presentations.
  • Keeping up-to-date content trends, consumer preferences, and advancements in technology.

  • Ability to prioritize work and deadlines under pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in content creation, marketing, videography, and photography.
  • A portfolio of published work.
  • Good knowledge of content editing tools such as Adobe, DaVinci, Avid, Final Cut Pro, or something similar.
  • Good knowledge of various content and scheduling platforms such as social media, Sprout, blogs, and print media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively engage with social media audiences.
  • The ability to keep on top of content, algorithms, consumer trends, and advancements in technology.
Required Education and Experience
  • College Degree in Marketing, Communications or Journalism
  • 2 years of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Reporting Structure:
  • Chief Marketing Officer, PR and Communications Manager
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time 40 hours per week position. 
Work Environment:
  • This position primarily takes place in a normal office environment.
  • This position may walk/travel to other parts of the Zoo.
  • Performing the duties of this job requires working independently and extensive interaction with the public.
  • The employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions including wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when on Zoo grounds during peak times.

  • The employee is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, move around, and hear.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
