The Northeastern Wisconsin Zoo & Adventure Park is seeking an experienced, passionate leader to oversee and manage all aspects of the care and welfare of the Zoo's animal collection and conservation programs.

Essential Duties
  • Develops, plans, coordinates and manages the day to day care and participates in long term planning for the entire animal collection and future growth at the Zoo.
  • Provides inspiring leadership to Zookeeper staff.
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring, scheduling, mentoring, evaluations, and all other aspects of managing staff.
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts training for Zookeeper staff. Arranges meaningful professional development opportunities for Zookeeper staff - including participation in field conservation projects.
  • Monitors and coordinates health care services for the zoological collection iand oversees contracted veterinary services.
  • Serves as Chair of the Institution's Animal Welfare Commitee.
  • Acts as Zoo's registrar to maintain all necessary records and permits for the animal collection. Responsible for updating Institutional Collection Plan.
  • Plans and coordinates logistics and records for animal transactions.Serves as Institutional Representative/Program Partner Rep for AZA SSP/SAFE programs.
  • Develops, documents and implements policy, procedure and protocol for all aspects of animal collection, animal programs, and animal care staff. Develops, plans, and oversees breeding, enrichment and behavioral programs, diets and maintenance routines including monitoring, ordering and inventory for feed, supplies and medications.
  • Ensures that all aspects of the animal department continue to meet or exceed evolving AZA standards at all times.
  • Identifies conservation projects and seeks partnerships locally and globally to maximize the Zoo's participation in meaningful conservation work.
  • Assists with development of department budget and monitors expenses for the related to the animal collection.
  • Helps implement departmental cost measurements to ensure compliance with budget limitations.
  • Coordinates with Maintenance Supervisor to identify and prioritize needs.
  • Participates in exhibit design and project management for renovation and new construction.
  • Works with Education Coordinator to develop engaging behind the scenes experiences involving animal ambassadors.
  • Represents the NEW Zoo in local and national media.
  • Assists in the procurement of grants and funding for the Zoo and its programs
  • Works closely with Management Team in long range planning for all aspects of Zoo operations and helps guide the future of the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park.
Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or closely related fields and at least 7 years of progressive experience in a leadership or Curatorial role at an AZA or similar facility preferred.
