The San Francisco Zoological Society (“Society”) is a non-profit institution that manages and raises funds for San Francisco Zoo and Gardens (“Zoo”).  The Society’s mission, supra, is summarized as the 3 c’s: to connect our visitors with wildlife so that they care about nature and ultimately conserve it.  The Society’s leadership team is comprised of a CEO & Executive Director as well as a senior management team. The Society endeavors to meet or exceed the standards of its industry peers, including those established by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (“AZA”). For over 25 years, the Society has been continuously accredited by the AZA.

Position Summary:
  • Under direct supervision, incumbent performs beginning to mid-level data analytics work of average difficulty in the office following industry and Zoo’s recommended methods and procedures. 
  • Incumbent to apply learned skills and descriptive, predictive and presumptive analytics to Zoo’s assets, including but not limited to, its website, social media platforms and discrete divisional databases and to create or assist to create and post content in traditional and social media platforms to drive engagement to heighten the Zoo’s visibility.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Interfaces with the public through digital media, blogs and creates or assists to create and post content that promotes the Zoo’s programs, activities, events and advance the Zoo’s Mission and to drive engagement to generate interest, increase “eyeballs” and ultimately attendance;
  • Reviews and understands the Zoo’s assets (as mentioned in Position Summary) using industry established standards, organizes information and prepares or assists in preparing customized outputs into charts, maps, presentations, digital messaging or marketing/educational campaigns;
  • Works independently to monitor or assists in monitoring the Zoo’s digital assets and where necessary, responds to inquiries with an emphasis on promoting conservation efforts;
  • Coordinates cross-divisional efforts and scripts or helps to script promotional materials to educate the public by posting materials in multiple platforms to support events, programs, activities, etc.;
  • Assists Marketing, Development and Education Divisions on event build-up, including e-mail notifications, writing and editing e-newsletters, where appropriate, to target audiences to enhance the visibility of and revenues for these programs;
  • Assists Guest Services Department to evaluate and research attendance trends and help draft marketing messages in digital space such as the Zoo’s main website and track impact and feedback of efforts;
  • Assists in market research to better understand the changing demographics in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area; prepares or assists in preparing marketing reports and presentations; and understands basic marketing survey techniques and interprets results for staff, potential sponsors, donors, boards and committees and other external stakeholders;
  • May be asked to assist with the digital ticketing system and evaluate its effectiveness on enhanced guest experience on Zoo grounds;
  • Maintains and organizes records, files, internal/external communications, research & promotional materials;
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position may direct the work of volunteers or interns
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION:
  • Education: a B.A. in Marketing, Data Science, Public Relations, Psychology, Behavioral Economics or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 2-years of verifiable experience. Raisor’s Edge experience a must.
  • Proven knowledge in Data Science or Data Analytics.
  • Excellent writing skills for diverse audiences from a variety of cultural socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent presentation and speaking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to build and maintain internal and external partnerships.

  • $67,000-$70,000
