Digital Marketing Coordinator

Zoo Knoxville
Knoxville, United States Posted: June 10, 2026

Zoo Knoxville tells one of the most compelling stories in our community every single day: animals being born, species being saved, kids discovering nature for the first time, and members who have supported the zoo for decades. Right now, those stories are not reaching people as consistently or as powerfully as they could through digital channels. This role exists to change that. The Digital Marketing Coordinator will be the person who makes sure our website reflects the living, breathing zoo it represents, and that every email we send feels worthy of the audience receiving it. This position connects directly to the zoo's ability to grow attendance, deepen membership loyalty, support fundraising, and build a community of people who genuinely care about our mission.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
  • The Digital Marketing Coordinator is a key member of Zoo Knoxville's Marketing & Communications team, responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization's website and email communications program.
  • This role serves as the digital execution hub for the zoo, working closely with Marketing & Communications, Development, Membership, Special Events, Education, and Conservation teams to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging content reaches the right audiences across digital channels.
  • The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with WordPress and WordFly (or a comparable email marketing platform), strong writing instincts, and a genuine passion for storytelling.
  • This position requires someone who can manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and translate institutional news into compelling digital content -- from announcing a new animal birth to supporting a membership renewal campaign or sharing a conservation milestone.
  • As directed, the Digital Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Website Content Management
  • Manage and update Zoo Knoxville's website using WordPress, ensuring content is current, accurate, and brand consistent across all pages.
  • Build and publish landing pages for special events, campaigns, seasonal programming, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather content, photos, and updates for timely web publishing.
  • Monitor website health, flag technical issues, and coordinate with web vendors or IT for resolution.
  • Implement basic SEO best practices to optimize visibility and searchability of web content.
  • Maintain and organize digital assets including photos, graphics, and video files in support of web content.
Email Marketing & Communications
  • Build, design, schedule, and deploy email campaigns using WordFly (or equivalent platform) for a variety of audiences including members, donors, general guests, event attendees, and education contacts.
  • Maintain email lists and audience segments, ensuring clean data hygiene and appropriate list management in coordination with the Development and Membership teams.
  • Develop and manage a recurring email communications calendar aligned with the zoo's marketing, events, and fundraising priorities.
  • Write compelling, on-brand email copy that tells the zoo's story across a range of topics including special events, animal news, conservation programs, education offerings, and giving campaigns.
  • Track and report on email performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, unsubscribes) and use insights to continuously improve campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the Development and Membership teams to support donor and member communications, renewal campaigns, and benefit-related messaging.
  • Digital Content & Cross-Departmental Collaboration
  • Serve as the digital content connector between Marketing & Communications, Development,
  • Membership, Special Events, Education, and Conservation teams to capture stories, updates, and programming highlights.
  • Develop and maintain a digital content calendar that aligns email and web content with organizational priorities.
  • Assist in the creation of basic graphics and digital assets using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite in support of campaigns and communications.
  • Support social media content planning and scheduling as a secondary responsibility in coordination with the Marketing & Communications team.
  • Support digital fundraising campaigns including Giving Day promotions, year-end appeals, and capital campaign digital touchpoints.
  • Compile regular performance reports across email and web channels and share insights with the team to inform strategy.
  • Cultivate relationships with zoo staff across departments to stay informed of newsworthy events, stories, and programming that can be shared through digital channels.
  • Present a professional appearance at all times.
  • Work as a team with all zoo departments to develop and implement a positive guest experience.
  • Other duties and tasks as requested or required.
Salary
  • $21.00 - $25.50 per hour
