Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens (JZG) is seeking an experienced Safety and Security Director to build and lead a comprehensive safety and security program from the ground up. - The Safety and Security Director will champion a proactive safety culture, conduct thorough risk assessments, develop and deliver training programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and head our emergency response protocols.
- This inspiring leader will collaborate across departments to integrate safety into every facet of zoo operations.
What You Bring:
Experience and Expertise:
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in safety management, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards, including hazardous materials handling, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness.
- Strong risk assessment and analytical skills to identify hazards and develop preventative safety strategies.
- In-depth understanding of the regulatory environment and effective risk management techniques.
Leadership and Team Development:
- Five (5) years of experience managing and developing teams, fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
- Proven ability to build and mentor high-performing teams, ensuring alignment with organizational safety goals.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills to educate, train, and engage staff at all levels, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
Strategic and Operational Excellence:
- Proficiency in resource planning, organizational goal setting, and strategic planning to align safety initiatives with the organization's mission.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record and be over age 18 to drive organizational vehicles.
- May require local travel.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Schedule of work includes a Saturday and/or Sunday for operations.
- Availability to accommodate a flexible schedule, including extended hours, holidays, weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires visual acuity for reading, writing, and observing surroundings, and auditory acuity for communication.
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, sunlight, cold, rain, and wind.
- Potential exposure to allergens (dust, animal dander, pollen, etc.), bloodborne pathogens, zoonotic diseases and injuries from animals.
- Must be available to fulfill disaster-response duties as required.
