The San Francisco Zoological Society ("Society") is anon-profit institution that manages and raises funds for San Francisco Zoo andGardens ("Zoo"). The Society's missioncan be summarized as the 3 Cs: to connectour visitors with wildlife so that they care about nature and ultimately conserve it. This positioninvolves all aspect of the Zoo's mission, as it seeks someone who has skills inanimal husbandry and public speaking so as to communicate and educate aboutanimal conservation.

SUMMARY:
- This position assists with the care and management of the Zoo's animalcollection that are used to educate the public, often referred to as "AmbassadorAnimals," and are generally located in the Zoo's Animal Resource Center.
- The position provides education content and presentationsregarding those animals as well as assist with the day-to-day operations and record-keepingassociated with these animals.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include thefollowing in these areas.

ANIMAL CARE ANDHUSBANDRY of "AMBASSADOR ANIMALS:'
- Performs all aspects of day-to-day animal husbandry associated with "AmbassadorAnimals."
- Prepare animal diets and determine feeding schedules.
- Develops and maintains all animal records, including medical, behavior,feeding, and training.
- Develops and coordinates animal training.
- Performs or oversees medical treatments as required.
- Creates animal enrichment.
- Handles a diverse collection of amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds; and
CARE OF "ANIMALRESOURCE CENTER" FACILITIES:
- Makes minor and emergency repairs to equipment in the ARC.
- Supports the daily maintenance and operations of the facility.
- Participates in all required safety exercises and protocols.
- Ensures that safety practices and protocols are observed by all persons whovisit the ARC; and
COMMUNICATION AND KNOWLEDGE OF CONSERVATION EDUCTION:
- Supports and/or provides educational presentations involving Animal Ambassadorsthroughout the Zoo.
- Coordinates with other Zoo staff members, including those in Education,Zoo-University and AmDiv, about education content and conservation status ofAmbassador Animals.
- Interacts with Zoo visitors courteously and offers proper attention at alltimes.
REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
- Highschool diploma or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimumof one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalentcombination of education and experience.
- Minimum one-year animal husbandry experience in an accredited zoologicalinstitution.
- Experience managing volunteers and supervising youth volunteers.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technicalprocedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and proceduremanuals.
- Ability to effectively presentinformation and respond to questions from groups.
- Ability to interpret avariety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
