Exhibit and Project Manager

The Exhibit & Project Manager is responsible for working across the organization to develop and execute the zoo’s exhibit plan with the goal of driving attendance, increasing preventive maintenance, exhibit & project oversight, and exemplifying our mission. They will provide general supervision, coordination, and technical support for all exhibit projects, and ensure that all assigned projects achieve their goals completely and efficiently, while adhering to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. This position is responsible for exhibit planning, new construction / installation, and exhibit maintenance/improvement. The Exhibits Manager will manage a small exhibits team and report to the Director of Facilities.

  • Develops and implements concepts for new, living, and non-living exhibits
  • Work with internal graphic development team on signage for placement, type, mounting, size and feel for exhibit.
  • Oversees regular maintenance and upgrades to existing exhibits
  • Effectively communicates concepts to multiple internal and external stakeholders, including designers and exhibit builders in order to effectively execute the vision for an exhibit  
  • Manages multiple exhibit projects of varying sizes concurrently, efficiently and effectively; ability to prioritize and work independently on more than one project at a time in a fast-paced environment is essential
  • Manages all phases of the project life-cycle, from design through construction, installation, and project closeout.
  • Develops budgets, scopes of work, RFP’s, and contracts for exhibit fabrication projects
  • Builds collaborative, positive, and productive relationships with personnel across the organization as well as clients and vendors
  • Creates and implements project action plans, schedules, budgets, and Zoo-wide communications
  • Coordinates and facilitates meetings to ensure optimal project inception, progression and conclusion
  • Ensures the quality of contracted project work, that budgets and schedules are adhered to, and that contractors comply with the terms of their contract
  • Manages fabrication project teams including exhibit fabricators, designers, contractors, and vendors
  • Evaluates project risks regularly and works to minimize risk
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Degree in design, project management, or related field preferred; or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 10-years' experience in aquarium, zoo, or museum exhibit management, design, fabrication, or related field
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Experience managing production of complex, public-facing exhibits
  • Ability to manage positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project or similar
  • Proficiency in Google Sketch Up or similar 3D design software
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities and problem-solving skills to facilitate multiple complex projects with constant attention to detail
  • Capable of managing heavy workloads, planning for critical timing of installations, and deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience managing live-animal exhibition projects preferred
  • Knowledge of exhibition project concept design, schematic design, design development and construction/fabrication/production documents
  • Knowledge/experience with architectural and technical detailing, construction, fabrication and production technology and equipment
  • Cost estimating experience for exhibit (zoo, aquarium, or museum) projects
  • Proficiency with small hand and power tools

  • Previous Work Order Management System Experience
  • Trade Certifications
  • Massachusetts hoisting license and heavy equipment operation
  • Stationary Position
