The Horticulture Supervisor oversees landscape areas, projects, and programs. This position is also responsible for oversight of a team. This position reports to the Director of Horticulture.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Leads a team that operates within a subdepartment of the horticulture department. In collaboration with the Director, this position is responsible for hiring, training, and performance management.
- Provides recommendations around policies and procedures that impact the staff.
- Act as a horticultural subject matter expert for other departments, guests and external partners.
- Conducts a variety of safety inspections, safety and equipment training, drills and other supervisory administrative work.
- Develops project work and pricing estimates, and conducts related coordination meetings with staff, vendors and
- contractors.
- Responsibilities include collaboration on major construction projects as directed.
- Assists in developing and implementing landscape design, installation, maintenance and water management.
- Responsibilities include researching, recommending and acquiring new plant materials in support of wildlife welfare and botanical collections record keeping processes.
- With the guidance of the Director, makes budget recommendations and administers the subdepartment's budget.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and training.
JOB EXPERIENCE
- Coursework or specialized training in horticulture, arboriculture, irrigation/water management, landscape construction, design, or a related field required
- 1+ years experience in a leadership capacity - either formally or informally required

- Knowledge of turf management and fertilization
- Knowledge of integrated pest management
- Knowledge of landscape and exhibit design
- Knowledge of nursery operations
- Knowledge of GIS and plant record systems
