HR Generalist - Talent Development

In this role, primary emphasis will focus on the development, implementation, and coordination of talent development strategies that support the growth and engagement of our employees and advance the mission of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.  This is a highly visible position that will succeed by creating a positive, collaborative relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.

The key roles and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Continually assess training and talent development needs through proactive & collaborative communication with departments and employees at all levels across the Zoo.
  • Collaborate on the identification and/or creation of engaging and effective training programs, workshops, and learning resources that cater to various learning styles and audiences.
  • Collaborate on the development learning pathways for employees at all stages of their career.
  • Develop and coordinate a training calendar, for proactive planning and budgeting of necessary time and resources; maintain records of training and development activities in the Zoo’s learning management system (Tovuti).
  • Provide oversight to ensure the quality and consistency of training and development solutions, providing regular feedback, as well as conducting scheduled evaluations and reviews.
  • Manage project timelines and resources to ensure the successful execution of training initiatives.
  • Coordinate the annual performance evaluation process across the Zoo.
  • Collaborate on and coordinate employee service award and performance recognition programs.
  • Provide support to management and employees on a range of issues including, benefits, policy enforcement, performance, employee and labor relations.
  • Support & participate in efforts to foster a culture of employee engagement & Total Well-Being.
Desired Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or a related field
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a talent development, or related role
  • Experience in multiple HR disciplines is preferred
  • PHR / SHRM-CP certification desired
  • Experience with HRIS & LMS software programs, highly desirable
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job will be considered
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • A positive attitude and growth mindset are must-haves
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resource management
  • Ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships within the organization as well as with outside vendors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with diverse personalities
  • Excellent presentation, project management & organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related program software
  • An understanding and affinity to the mission of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is a must
Working Conditions /Other Requirements: 

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment drug & nicotine screen, TB test, and background check.  Requires full vaccination for COVID-19, as currently defined by the CDC. While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, and have the manual dexterity to use computer mouse and keyboard. The incumbent may be exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to lift/move/carry up to 25 pounds without assistance, must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive a Zoo vehicle. 

Position Details: 

This is a full-time, overtime-exempt, and eligible for the Zoo’s benefit programs for non-union employees.
