LSS Water Quality Technician

This position is responsible for performing daily operations and upkeep of aquatic systems, equipment, overall property water supply, and animal life support systems. The LSS Water Quality Technician understands and interprets water chemistry reports and makes recommendations for corrections. Work objectives are to maintain the physical integrity of zoo structures and facilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  •  Monitors water quality, clarity and chemistry of aquatic exhibits.
  • Conducts the preventive maintenance and repair of LSS equipment.
  • Recommends and maintain the stock of required spare parts, tools, and test instruments.
  • Understands and interprets water chemistry reports and results and makes recommendations for corrections if needed.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs all systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of control systems to monitor and record data.
  • Maintains system logs and records.
  • Interface effectively with other departments to maintain the highest quality standards.
  • Follows and maintains all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains the highest standard of work area cleanliness.
  • Interacts with Zoo guests and maintains the highest level of guest satisfaction.
Contributes to saving animals in the wild through:
  • reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); supplemented by two years’ experience in municipal water, waste water, or public aquarium life support systems
  • Knowledge with diagnosing and repairing LSS equipment including ozone generators, pumps, heat exchangers, air compressors, control systems, and all types of filtration systems.
  • Knowledge with pipe fitting utilizing PVC, FRP, copper and tubing.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to partner across teams and with all levels of staff
