The San Francisco Zoological Society (“Society”) is a non-profit institution that manages and raises funds for San Francisco Zoo and Gardens (“Zoo”). The Society’s leadership team is comprised of a President & Executive Director as well as a professional team of Senior Managers. SUMMARY:
- Under supervision, performs a variety of non-skilled and semi-skilled tasks including performing deliveries, maintenance, construction, alteration, and repair to Zoo buildings, facilities, equipment, grounds; and performs related work as required by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Acts as a general laborer - digging, hauling, making deliveries, etc.
- Applies paint, varnish, shellac, etc.; prepares surfaces by scraping, sanding, etc.
- Installs and maintains simple electronic and electric equipment such as appliances, light fixtures, etc.
- Repairs and installs plumbing fixtures such as hose bibs, unplugs sewage and waste lines.
- Alters, repairs, and constructs structures of wood such as partitions, sheds, doors, fences, scaffolds, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment including forklifts, pallet dollies, small backhoes, medium to light trucks.
- Breaks out concrete or asphalt using hand tools and/or pneumatic tools; sets forms, pours, tamps, smooths, etc.
- Interacts with Zoo visitors courteously and offers proper attention at all times.

EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum six months paid experience in basic maintenance/repairs, ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, good interpersonal and communication skills.
LICENSES:
- Valid driver’s license.
