Receive and inspect incoming shipments, verifying the accuracy of the delivery against purchase orders or other relevant documents.
- Unpack and sort incoming goods, ensuring freight is stored in the appropriate location within the warehouse or designated area.
- Update inventory records, maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on stock levels and locations.
- Generate and maintain detailed reports on received shipments, including quantities, conditions, and discrepancies, and communicate any issues to the appropriate department or supplier.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely delivery and availability of materials and products.
- Coordinate with carriers and logistic providers to schedule deliveries, track shipments, and resolve any transportation issues.
- Inspect and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the receiving area, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
- Assist with inventory management tasks, such as conducting cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies, and performing stock rotations.
- Operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks or other material handling equipment to move and transport goods, when required and certified to do so.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to receiving and inventory management and suggest improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned to achieve the goals and mission of the Memphis Zoo.
Experience/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably five years or more in a warehouse, purchasing or distribution center setting.
- Familiarity with receiving, procurement procedures, inventory control, and warehouse management systems.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to receiving and material handling.
- Forklift certification.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Other Requirements:
- The ability to use standard office equipment including copier, fax, telephones, personal computer, adding machine, etc.
- Ability to use an electric pallet jack or manual pallet jack.
- Must be a licensed motor vehicle operator in the state of TN, golf cart and or UTV vehicle usage is mandatory.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Requires interaction with vendors, management, donors, and staff.
- Requires lifting, bending, climbing, and a variety of physically demanding duties.
- Requires working in outdoor elements, including inclement weather.
- Requires the ability to lift freight in excess of 50lbs.
- Typical work week - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8 am to 4 pm.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.
- The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.
