The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park’s Reptile Department is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team full-time.
The zoo is world-renowned for its crocodilians:
- It also maintains a diverse collection of other reptiles, especially chelonians.
- Keepers are responsible for all aspects of husbandry and animal welfare including, but not limited to: exhibit maintenance, diet preparation, enrichment, behavioral training, data collection, veterinary visits, public interaction, and continually improving animal well-being.
- This fast-paced work environment requires attention to detail, time management skills, and a positive attitude.
- Interpretive presentations are required for this position. Preference with be given to candidates with crocodilian and/or venomous snake experience.
Keeper II:
- In addition to the requirements above, Keeper II candidates must demonstrate a broad foundation of knowledge, skills and experience with husbandry management, the ability to teach others, and a good understanding of behavioral management and preventive health care.
- This includes the ability to proactively visually assess animal wellness and exhibit security and safety.
- Applicants for this role should have at least 2 years of experience at an AZA facility and will be expected to serve as a role model to other keepers and to prioritize project needs.
Experience Required
- All applicants must fulfill the following requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- The ability to work as part of a team composed of other staff and interns have a positive attitude with good communication skills, enjoy working outdoors year-round in a Florida climate tolerate strong odors, hay, and animal dander be able to lift 50 pounds, climb over fences, bend awkwardly, and move quickly in demanding situations.

- Starting pay is $15.50/hr (for Keeper 1) with a raise and benefits after a 60-day probation
