Social Media and Digital Communications Specialist

Job Purpose: To assist the Public Relations Team in promoting Zoo Atlanta’s animal news, programs, conservation initiatives, business accomplishments, events, and mission to the public and key stakeholders through traditional and non-traditional communications; social and digital media programs; and social media monitoring. Supports Zoo Atlanta’s mission and communications objectives with creation of a variety of written content.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
  • Serves as an integral part of Zoo Atlanta’s social media/digital content teams by facilitating day-to-day management and content development for multiple Zoo Atlanta social media networks and other owned digital channels.
  • Plans, manages, and maintains Editorial Content Calendars for Zoo Atlanta social media. 
  • Responsible for regularly capturing content and collaborating with Zoo Atlanta’s Animal Care Teams on content development. 
  • Responsible for developing and executing individual strategies for Zoo Atlanta’s social media networks and for maintaining a program of social media engagement. 
  • Regularly and proactively monitors Zoo Atlanta’s social media and other owned digital channels for trends, emerging themes, and matters of special interest or concern for the organization.
  • Coordinates regular responses to social media messaging in collaboration with the Director of Communications. 
  • Serves in an editorial capacity and contributes content for the internal Zoo Atlanta employee e-newsletter. 
  • Collaborates with Education Team and Research Team on curating content for monthly Conservation Blogs and Animal Science Blogs for zooatlanta.org. 
  • Assists with providing support for posting web-based content on zooatlanta.org.
  • Researches and identifies curated content for Zoo Atlanta’s digital properties; researches and applies trends and best practices in social media; researches trends in global wildlife conservation movements.
  • Supports Zoo Atlanta communications objectives by creating written content, including but not limited to feature articles, blog posts, and select e-communications.
  • Assists with implementation and execution of Public Relations Team-related special events, projects, and presentations. 
  • Develops and proactively maintains extensive working knowledge and continuing education of Zoo Atlanta’s animal collection, programs, products and offerings. 
  • Manages special projects as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement. 
  • Weekend/holiday and some evening work required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of social and digital media and social media analytics.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while remaining deadline-and-detail oriented.
  • Video editing and production skills are highly desirable.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible and be comfortable working in an intense, quick-changing environment.
  • Must be a team player and possess the ability to work collaboratively with others.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media or related field with minimum of three years of professional employment in one of these or related fields.

Salary
  • $57,000.00 To $65,600.00 Annually
