- As a Zoological Specialist, Supervisor you will:
- Enthusiastically represent SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
- Provide for proper nutrition, appropriate and sanitary living conditions, and constant care for marine mammals.
- These positions safely fulfill duties in animal/guest interactions, animal training, husbandry, enrichment, public presentations, and research.
- Perform daily husbandry tasks including administration of vitamins and medications as directed, food preparation, maintaining a safe and sanitary working area for all animal habitats as directed.
- Make daily observations of animals and report any abnormalities to Curator, team, and Veterinarians.
- Be proficient in application of behavioral modification techniques used at SeaWorld. This includes, but is not limited to, the skill set to develop and implement new behavior, training of naïve animals with minimum supervision, training behavior to completion without supervision, proactively maintaining conditioned behavior, and the ability to form relationships with most, if not all, of the animals in assigned area.
- Teach proper husbandry procedures, behavior modification techniques, and showmanship skills.
- Responsible for guest, personal, and animal safety through constant monitoring of the behavioral precursors of potentially harmful behavior by both animals and people.
- Provide proactive guest service through guest interactions, pre and post shows, and responding to guest inquiries.
- Perform all roles in public shows and guest interaction programs.
- Professionally represent company in Public Relations or Media situations/events.
- Responsible for operation of animal area in absence of Curator or Vice President.
- Assist with animal acquisition and disposition.
- Assist with future exhibit design and enhancement.
- Ensure open communication between management and all members of the department, making the team aware of daily priorities and changes.
- Encourage and demonstrate clear and professional communication.
- Responsible for area staffing through effective scheduling, maintaining all animal records, equipment, and area responsibilities.
- Provide and maintain a work environment that follows the established guidelines and safety procedures set by the department and park.
- Function as an Ambassador by displaying consideration, tolerance, cooperation, open communication, and reliability. Maintain a consistent attitude, motivation, and ability to accept feedback.
- Assist in the evaluation of Ambassadors through annual performance evaluations and development plans.
- Help manage company assets by being fiscally aware of spending for equipment and supplies to help achieve company goals.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
What it takes to succeed:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- 2 years as a Zoological Specialist, Senior 1 within SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment or minimum of 7.0 years (14,560 hours) professional zoological experience, or upon Zoological Vice President Team review.
- Must be SCUBA certified.
- Must be able to pass both pre-employment swim test and dive physical.
- Basic computer/Window's software knowledge.
- Basic Math skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a company driver’s license.
- Must be able to push, pull, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must have excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
- Must have strong presentation and problem-solving skills.
- Must demonstrate initiative, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Professional and outgoing presence required. Ability to manage professional relationships with internal and external guests.
- Must be able to work independently and have flexibility to work successfully in a team environment.
- Provide excellent service to guests and ambassadors.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and work for prolonged periods of time in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, weekends, evenings, overnights, and holidays based on business needs.
- Must consistently practice safe work habits including, but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment, lifting, and reporting of unsafe situations.
- Must be willing to comply with and ensure ambassadors comply with all SEA grooming guidelines and employment standards.
- Must be able to successfully complete all legal, company and department training requirements to include but not limited to passing required tests and certifications within established timelines.
