Veterinary Technician

What you get to do:
  • Provide the highest standard of nursing care for animals living at Busch Gardens as well as wildlife rehabilitation cases
  • Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures and with treatment of animals including procedural set-up and clean-up, animal restraint, anesthetic monitoring, medication administration, sample collection, radiographs, operating veterinary and lab equipment, and assisting with husbandry for hospitalized animals as needed
  • Perform in-house laboratory procedures and prepare samples for shipment to outside labs
  • Assist in maintaining hospital areas and vehicles
  • Data entry in medical records and hospital databases
  • Provide excellent guest service
  • Depending on experience
  • Provide mentoring to associate vet techs and participate in hospital training program
  • Maintain or assist in administrative duties as assigned such as drug and supply inventory, ordering, maintaining vendor relationships, scheduling repair services, other
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What it takes to succeed:
  • Veterinary Technician degree or equivalent
  • Certified Veterinary Technician required
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and must be able to meet company's driving requirements.
  • Team-oriented, with a positive attitude
  • Work 40 hours/week with ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills necessary
What else is important:
  • Ability to lift, push and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Perform the following physical activities on a frequent basis: stand, walk, climb, bend floor-to-waist/waist-to-overhead and reach overhead, simple grasp and fine manipulation tasks.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying Florida weather to include extreme heat
  • Able to follow directions and protocols for specified zoological areas and work independently
  • Work in a consistent, professional, and positive manner displaying consideration, tolerance, cooperation, open communication, reliability, and uphold company reputation and confidentiality
