The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator serves as a resource for our volunteers and is responsible for proactively and enthusiastically engaging volunteers and ensuring that volunteer processes are in line with Human Resources standards. This role will work closely with the Human Resources team to cultivate a positive and inclusive culture for both staff and volunteers. This role will act as an administrator for the volunteer program while coordinating interdepartmentally to ensure the volunteer program is aligned with the mission and core values of the Zoo.
Essential Duties:
- Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
- Support volunteer lifecycle management, including intake, orientation, retention, support, and discipline of volunteers.
- Maintain inventory of donated items, volunteer technology and supplies, appreciation items, and volunteer uniforms.
- Work closely with ACNC department liaisons for the management of volunteers in their associated roles.
- Assist in coordinating and managing group volunteering opportunities for community partners.
- Ensure high quality communication between the Zoo and all volunteers which includes sharing operational and animal updates, and volunteer logistics.
- Provide administrative support to the Volunteer Program through email and phone communication, database management, and report generation.
- Ensure that volunteers that interface with the Zoo are highly satisfied and represent the Zoo in the highest professional manner.
- Assist the Human Resources Team to develop, organize, and implement staff and volunteer engagement and appreciation events.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources team to conduct ongoing evaluation of staff and volunteer experience and engagement opportunities.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience working with volunteers.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must have confidence and comfort working with adult learners and community partners.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pace and dynamic environment, including managing time among multiple projects.
- Possess a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
- Ability to be a team player and demonstrate leadership qualities.
- Strong oral, written interpersonal communication skills.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug test, DMV check and clear annual TB test.
