Wildlife Nutrition Assistant

The Wildlife Nutrition Assistant responsibility will be to prepare a wide variety of foods, which include live and frozen wildlife prey and completed diets; perform a variety of general warehouse and store functions, unload and load vehicles, and make deliveries. This position reports to the Wildlife Nutrition Warehouse Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Prepares food and diets for the wildlife
  • Processes (cutting, chopping, grinding) various fruits and vegetables
  • Handles invertebrates, fish, rodents, meats and other food items
  • Receives materials and food supplies
  • Delivers materials and food supplies
  • Organizes materials for delivery and loads and unloads
  • Drives to multiple sites within the Zoo and Safari Park
  • Washes and sanitizes containers, surfaces and equipment
  • Operates kitchen utensils and appliances
  • Maintains vertebrate and invertebrate prey cultures
  • Performs routine maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • Determines measurements (weight, volume) for diet

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Food safety training and certification is highly desired
  • Current valid California Driver’s License in good standing 
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Comprehension of wildlife care and nutrition
  • Safe food preparation and handling techniques
  • Proper methods of receiving and warehousing
  • Safe driving practices and California motor vehicle laws
  • Commercial and household food processing operation and maintenance
  • Wildlife nutrition and feeds
  • Competently perform the responsibilities outlined in the Representative Duties section
  • Properly maintain equipment and supplies
  • Perform special projects as assigned
  • Operate motorized equipment and vehicles safely
  • Take and follow work instructions
  • Effectively communicate
  • Work effectively with others
  • Learn the safe operation of electric and manual a pallet-jacks and folk-lifts
