What is the history of Wildlife Safari?

Wildlife Safari was founded by Frank Hart, a frequent traveler to Africa who wanted to create a facility in the Pacific Northwest to help save rare and endangered species. It opened in October 1972 as World Wildlife Safari with about 30 species, and Hart later converted it into a non-profit organization.

What are the notable features of Wildlife Safari?

Wildlife Safari is the only drive-through animal park in Oregon, with a self-guided route of roughly 1 to 1.5 hours through habitats zoned by continent. It runs one of the world's leading cheetah breeding programs, ranked number one outside Africa, and has produced more than 230 cubs. It also hosts an international veterinary medicine program and welcomes over 200,000 visitors a year.

Where is Wildlife Safari located?

Wildlife Safari is located at 1790 Safari Road in Winston, Oregon, near Roseburg in Southern Oregon. It is about three miles west of Interstate 5, reached via Exit 119.

What types of habitats does Wildlife Safari feature?

The drive-through route passes through African, Asian, and North American zones, with animals such as giraffes, rhinos, zebras, lions, hippos, African elephants, bison, elk, bears, yaks, and Sumatran tigers. It also includes interpretive wetlands, a carnivore loop with cheetahs, and the free-entry Safari Village with an aviary and animal encounters.
