Zoo Miami is currently has a Full time Zoo Hospital Clerk to support the Zoo Health Team. We are searching for a team-oriented candidate that will be engaging and deliver exceptional customer service by creating friendly and positive interactions with all guests and co-workers. This position reports directly to the Animal Health Manager.
Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintains a complete and accurate medical records database for the Zoo Miami animal collection.
- Maintains accounting, purchasing, inventory and other hospital records; prepares and researches the cost of capital equipment requests; researches means to upgrade hospital facilities.
- Utilizes laboratory equipment when assisting the Zoo Veterinarian in minor medical procedures to the Zoo Miami animal collection following all health protocols, rules, regulations, policies and procedures that are in accordance with AZA, USDA and OSHA standards.
- Monitors, determines, and projects budget expenditures; compiles reports to show cost analysis and expenditures; checks for accuracy of budget codes and computations; provides recommendations for purchases, repairs, and facilities operations for the zoo’s hospital and quarantine facility.
- Assists in preparing health certifications for shipments of animals; works with regulatory agencies to assure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of volunteers and/or interns engaged in typing, filing, and general clerical work; coordinates the application process for Animal Health’s volunteer and internship program.
- Assist the Zoo's Executive Assistant with travel request for the Animal Health department.
- Performs related work as required.
Experience Required
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school or GED.
- Two years of general clerical experience including experience in bookkeeping, records management and inventory control are required.
- Must possess a Driver license.
- Must be able to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends on a varied work schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates Degree.
- The ideal candidate will have excellent administrative and organizational skills, exceptional communication with all levels of staff, and the ability to work independently.
